Full-service law firm HSA Advocates has appointed Amit Charan as a partner to strengthen its banking and finance practice.
Charan will be based out of Delhi, the firm said in a statement. He comes to HSA from SNG & Partners, where he was principal associate.
His primary areas of specialisation include banking and finance-related transactions including project finance, structured finance and asset finance.
Charan has experience working with banks and financial institutions, advising them on matters related to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, including finalising resolution plans. He has also advised on issues such as succession plan structuring for high net-worth individuals, real estate financing and stressed asset restructuring.
Charan, who has 16 years of experience, has previously worked at law firms J Sagar Associates and L&L Partners.
This is the second finance-related hire by HSA Advocates in a month’s time. The firm had appointed Geeta Saha as a partner at its Mumbai office in May. Previously, Saha was a managing partner at GS Associates, Advocates & Attorneys, where she headed banking and infrastructure project finance.
That appointment came less than a month after Delhi-based DLS Law Offices, which specialises in private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and insolvency, merged with HSA. DLS founder and managing partner Dipti Lavya Swain was made a partner at HSA Advocates.
In November last year, HSA had hired three people including a partner to strenthen its regulatory and policy practice.
In September, HSA Advocates merged Atman Law Partners with itself and brought on board Chinmay Mirji, managing partner and founder of Atman, as a partner.
HSA, founded in 2003 by Hemant Sahai, has offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Its practice areas include corporate mergers and acquisitions, private equity, banking and finance, projects, infrastructure and energy, taxation, regulation and policy.
